Helping Heroes: C-VETS Clinic Serves More Than 600 U.S. Veterans Since Inception
Samford University Cumberland School of Law’s Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic (C-VETS), which was founded in the fall of 2020, provides free legal assistance to veterans and their families across the state of Alabama. Since its inception, 62 volunteer law students have served more than 600 veterans, including 239 in the 2023-24 year alone.

TJ Riggs Becomes Fifth Samford Student to Be Named Truman Scholar
Samford University's Howard College of Arts and Sciences junior TJ Riggs, a law politics and society major, has been named a 2024 Truman Scholar by the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. Riggs is the first Samford student to receive this prestigious national scholarship since 2002 and only the fifth recipient in Samford’s history.

Samford University School of the Arts’ annual Division of Music Honors Recital and Awards Ceremony took place Tuesday, March 26, in Brock Recital Hall. Hosted by Joel Davis, interim chair of the Division of Music, the event was attended by faculty, staff, students, donors and parents. Dean Lance Beaumont gave a brief welcome greeting to kick off the evening.

On April 9, Samford University celebrated Samford Giving Day 2024. After almost a decade of being known as The Big Give, University Advancement refreshed the campaign in 2023 to feature a more consistent, simplified message. Samford Giving Day is now a 24-hour event for collective support of areas all over campus.

Samford Pharmacy Climbs in U.S. News & World Report Rankings
Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy has moved up in the rankings and is tied for the number one ranked private school of pharmacy in the South according to new national rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. The latest ranking also shows Samford Pharmacy among the country's top 10 private pharmacy schools. Rankings are based on peer assessment surveys sent to accredited pharmacy school deans, faculty and administrators. McWhorter School of Pharmacy improved its ranking from 65th in 2020 to tie for 60th overall, placing it in the top 50% of pharmacy schools nationally.

Samford University’s Orlean Beeson School of Education held its annual awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 10. Students from Human Development and Family Science, Teacher Education and Educational Leadership received awards honoring academic and character excellence and leadership, and were awarded scholarships that affirm these qualities.

Cumberland School of Law Has Largest Climb Among Law Schools in U.S. News & World Report Rankings, Remains Top 10 for Trial Advocacy
As part of U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Law School rankings released Tuesday, April 9, Samford University Cumberland School of Law has been ranked #103 (tie) in the nation, climbing 28 spots. This climb was the largest of any law school in the nation, tied with only one other school. Additionally, Cumberland School of Law retains its top 10 position for trial advocacy training, ranking #6 in the nation in this category.

Samford Department of Art and Design Awards Presented at Juried Art Show
Samford University students were presented with art and design departmental awards on Monday, March 25, during the opening reception of the 2024 Juried Art Student Showcase. Students, faculty and members of the community came to view the pieces displayed. From the 160 submissions, only 40 were chosen to be presented in the gallery.

Andrews, Executive Director of Samford’s Center for Worship and the Arts, Receives Grant for Fostering Leadership for Communities of Faith
Samford University is among a select group of Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) members to receive a grant for Fostering Leadership for Communities of Faith from the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC). Through this initiative, CIC aims to develop and strengthen programs designed to support students who are exploring future leadership roles in communities of faith. Emily Andrews, executive director of the Center for Worship and the Arts and assistant professor of music and worship, is excited about directing the project. She aims to leverage Samford’s expertise and network in the arts to empower emerging artists toward faithful, lifelong worship and discipleship.
